S1 Accounting Study Program (PSA) was established after the Faculty of Economics and Business, Bengkulu University was established 23 years. The Accounting Study Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Bengkulu (PSA-FEB-UNIB) was established in 2002 based on the Decree of the Director General of Education NO.2404/D/T/K-N/2002. Before PSA was established, the Faculty of Economics and Business, Bengkulu University, had established the D-III Accounting Study Program in 1996. At that time, Bengkulu University needed a long time and significant funds to build buildings, provide equipment, and send teaching staff to the S2 and S3 levels. Therefore, the high interest of high school graduates to continue their studies in the S1 Accounting study program is very high. This can be seen from the number of students who choose to study in the S1 Accounting Study Program. Likewise, the expectations of the world of work at that time needed PSA graduates because they had difficulty finding graduates who had expertise in financial management and accounting, so the presence of PSA at Bengkulu University was highly expected. Therefore, prospective students are interested in PSA because its graduates have many job opportunities and promising career paths.
In the odd semester’s 2020/2021 Academic Year, the number of students was 631. The learning process at PSA is designed with a curriculum that emphasizes mastering concepts and theoretical depth in the field of accounting and can analyze financial reporting aimed at decision-making so that graduates can work in general when they graduate. PSA offers three concentrations: Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, and Public Sector Accounting. Students can choose one of these concentrations according to their respective interests. The time it takes for students to complete their studies at PSA is three years and seven months. PSA has graduated 623 alumni who have worked in various agencies such as the Ministry of Finance, Bank Indonesia, Public Accounting Firms, foreign companies, banks, lecturers, civil servants and entrepreneurs. The number of teaching staff owned by PSA is 30 people consisting of 12 people with doctoral qualifications and 18 with master’s qualifications. In the next three years, the number of teaching staff with doctoral qualifications will increase to 15. PSA teaching staff are graduates from various leading universities such as La Trobe University (Australia), Hague University (Netherlands), University of the Philippines Los Banos (Philippines), Universiti Sains Malaysia, Gajah Mada University, Padjadjaran University, and Diponegoro University. With the excellence of the quality of teaching staff owned by PSA, various scientific works were produced in 2013-2014, including ten articles published in journals, five textbooks published, two papers presented in national seminars and three papers presented in international seminars, and five modules. Since its establishment in 2005, PSA has carried out Accreditation three times, namely in 2008, 2014 and 2019. This accreditation process is a form of public accountability for implementing education for five years. Suppose the first accreditation process of PSA gets accreditation status B, then the second accreditation process. In that case, PSA obtained A Accreditation status based on BAN-PT Decree No. 403/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/X/2014 dated October 23, 2014, and in 2020 PSA obtained Accreditation A status based on BAN-PT Decree No. 3642/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-PPJ/S/VI/2020 Dated June 23, 2020. This Accreditation A is a source of pride for PSA and motivates it to improve better services to stakeholders.
